Who We Are

We are a family-run business with a passion for farming and supplying quality meats.

Our enterprise was set up by Joseph Gauci in 1977 who, at the time, worked as a farmer with his father in the family fields and greenhouses. Back then, the business was quite different in that the produce sold was all local and mostly grown on the family’s land. The business was one of the first farmers growing mushrooms locally and the business mostly involved selling and distributing poultry, eggs, mushrooms, and other vegetables to markets and hotels.

A short while later, Joseph Gauci expanded the business by rearing pigs, turkey and chicken and even setting up a small slaughterhouse in Burmarrad. In 2002, the business moved to a new and improved slaughterhouse boasting better facilities and adhering to EU standards.

The company now only breeds and slaughters chicken. However, in order to keep up with the demand and to remain competitive in the market, Ta’ Gauci started importing a vast array of other meats like beef, pork, duck, rabbit and lamb approximately ten years ago. This family-run business now employs around thirty-five people.

A strict quality management system is observed in compliance with the highest international standards to ensure the provision of carefully selected healthy meat that is of the highest quality and freshness through a meticulous microbiological analysis process which takes place at various stages of the production cycle in our laboratories. A transparent labelling system ensures the traceability of each of our products – we want our customers to know exactly what they are buying. This traceability protocol using product identification codes ensures that the product can be tracked from breeding to processing to delivery.

Quality Meats Since 1977

At Ta’ Gauci, we pride ourselves on the quality of our products. Over the years the ancient practice of breeding livestock for food has been honed and modernized, making use of cutting-edge technology to guarantee the quality of our products.

This technology applies both to the breeding process and to the feeding process of the livestock, merging traditional methods to modern equipment and industrial automation. We constantly strive to innovate our process and make our operations as eco-sustainable as possible while improving the quality of our products as we go along. Our supply chain is closely enclosed, transforming the raw materials into the finished products rapidly in order to ensure freshness and the reduction of producer-consumer distances, thus making sure that the process is as eco-sustainable as possible.
